Guinness Record: Largest Dog | Worlds Biggest Dogs

Biggest Dogs In the World

Every year there are thousands of dogs born. Some are small, some are big and then there are those that are huge. In the past decade, there have been a couple dogs that have been labeled as the Worlds largest dogs. Which one is actually the world’s largest dog depends on how you determine “biggest”. Does it mean “tallest”? Does it mean “heaviest”? In the Guinness Book of World Records, they break it down into individual categories. For this purpose, it’s up to the reader.

Hercules: Worlds Largest Dog

The World’s largest living Dog is Hercules, an English Mastiff who weighs 282 pounds and has a 38-inch neck. J. Flynn of Peabody, Massachusetts owns Hercules. This one dog weighs more than his owner does, and the owner is no lightweight at 270 pounds.

For the 343 pound all time record holder check out ZORBA. He was the biggest dog ever.

Hercules was recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records in June, 2001 after a friend noticed a large Mastiff in the Guinness Book and thought it was Hercules. After calling the organization, Flynn discovered that the previous winner (a 296-pound mastiff) was deceased, making Hercules the new largest dog.

Hercules may be the largest dog in the world, but the title of heaviest dog in the world belongs to Kell, an English Mastiff from the UK who weighed in at 286 pounds in August of 1999 at the age of two. He weighed more than Hercules but his neck was “only” 32 inches. The proud owner of Kell is Tom Scott of East Leake, Notts. Tom told reporters that Kell eats 100 pounds of beef each week and drinks gallons of goat’s milk to stay in the great condition he is in.

Worlds Biggest Dog

In 1989, an English Mastiff by the name of Zorba set the world’s record with the weight of 343 pounds at the age of eight. If Zorba were still alive today, there is little doubt that he would still hold the record in the Guinness Book as the largest dog in the world.

Worlds Heaviest Dog

In 2001, Kell had some competition for the title of heaviest dog in the world. Moose, an English Mastiff form Vernon, New Jersey set the record when he appeared on the Live with Regis & Kelly television show at 286 pounds, which had him tied with Kell with the Guinness World Record for heaviest dog. Later, it was clarified that he weighed 291 pounds, which made him the definite winner. Unfortunately, Moose died not long ago at the ripe age of 10, leaving his owner, Donna Vazquez, very heartbroken. It also left Kell the title once again of heaviest dog.

Regardless of which of these dogs is the biggest or heaviest, they are all true winners!
